AutoCAD is the product of an early phase in CAD software development history that was dominated by larger applications and mainframe computers.

In 1982, CAD applications were originally developed for mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal. There were a few exceptions, like Adobe Illustrator, which was programmed as a standalone application and distributed on floppy disks. CAD programs were usually fairly large applications that took several megabytes of disk space and used an external graphics controller to display the drawings. The CAD operator would view the drawings on a cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor.

The transition from drawing on CRT monitors to using displays with flat-panel electronic display devices like plasma or LCD screens was slow. In 1983, the first CAD programs were released for personal computers. Originally called CADRIVER, CADRIVER 1.0 was released in 1983, and was followed by the first product specifically marketed as a personal computer-based CAD application, CADPRO.

The first Windows-based CAD programs, such as MobilWorks and AutoLISP, did not yet have the capability to draw directly on a flat-panel electronic display device. They displayed bitmapped images by scanning the display device with a bitmap and then setting the display device’s cursor to display the position where the next bitmap would be placed. These applications also did not have the capability to do polyline or polygonal editing or to do object oriented programming. In 1990, Win3D, a Windows 3.1 app, was released, allowing CAD users to develop drawings directly on the Windows 3.1 Display.

The first object-oriented application, AutoLISP, was released in 1983, and its capabilities included object-oriented programming, bitmapped graphics, polyline and polygonal editing, solid and surface modeling, and report generation. In 1984, AutoCAD 1.0 was released by Autodesk, and it also included object-oriented capabilities. Also that year, MobilWorks was released, which included the only true CAD app available for the Apple Macintosh. It had the ability to draw directly on flat-panel displays and was the first true CAD app available for the Apple Macintosh.

In 1984, CAD programs were still written in machine language, and were not object oriented. As machine language and object orientation are incompatible, object-oriented applications can’t be written in machine language. To access

AutoCAD was originally named ComputerDraughts, based on an acronym for “AutoCAD Drawing Language”. After the initial release, the product was renamed AutoCAD. In 1994, ComputerDraughts was released for Macintosh, and followed by Windows 3.1 and 3.11. In 1994, ComputerDraughts was released in Russia under the name “Delphi2CAD”.

In 1994, CAD File Interchange Format (CAD/DXF) was introduced, and included Autodesk’s own DWG format.

In 1995, CAD File Interchange Format (CAD/DXF) was introduced, and included Autodesk’s own DWG format, and later included DWF (AutoCAD 2002). In 1996, ComputerDraughts 3.0 was released, adding support for Windows 95.

In 1996, Autodesk released a new 32-bit version of AutoCAD with 32-bit 3D for Windows 95 and Windows NT. By 1996, AutoCAD was available for the Amiga and OS/2.

In 1997, an object based design philosophy was introduced, where all objects were connected together, instead of having separate drawing files for each of them. In 1999, it became fully 3D-capable.

In 2000, AutoCAD XP was released. In 2001, AutoCAD LT was released. In 2002, AutoCAD 2002 was released. It included raster and vector capabilities.

In 2003, AutoCAD LT 2006 was released. In 2005, AutoCAD 2007 was released, which included an iPad version. In 2007, AutoCAD 2008 for Mac and AutoCAD 2009 for Mac were released. In 2008, AutoCAD LT 2010 was released. In 2008, Autodesk released AutoCAD Map 3D, a conversion program. In 2010, Autodesk released AutoCAD Map 3D 2012.

Validation of the Breastfeeding Counselor Assessment for the Infant (BCA-I) in home-based infant care.
Objective. To test whether an observation-based assessment tool, the Breastfeeding Counselor Assessment for the Infant (BCA-I), can be used to assess infant feeding and maternal-infant interactions in a home-based setting. Methods. This was a case-control study of convenience. Maternal-infant dyads (n=4,811) were evaluated with the BCA-I at the first home visit. Maternal characteristics and infant feeding practices were compared across BCA-I categories. Infant birthweight and number of days in hospital were compared across categories. This study was conducted at a tertiary care facility, involving home-based, mid-level clinicians conducting a home visit. Results. Prenatal support for a planned/delayed/unplanned/discontinued breastfeeding initiation were at best 50% for all infants. Full breastfeeding initiation at 12 weeks and continuation at 5 and 6 months were at best 60% for all infants. Maternal anxiety, depression, and intimate partner violence were significantly higher among women who were unable to sustain a breastfeeding relationship, as were infant temperament and breastfeeding self-efficacy. Infants born to mothers unable to sustain a breastfeeding relationship required more days in hospital, but birthweight did not differ by level of breastfeeding support. Conclusions. This study has demonstrated the efficacy of the BCA-I to assess breastfeeding, maternal-infant interactions, and infant feeding support among a home-based population, suggesting that the BCA-I can be used to identify women and their infants in need of support. This invention relates to an image pickup device for converting a scene image, obtained by an image pickup system, into electrical signals.
